How To Write a Bibliography using MLA 7

Book with One Author


Author’s   Last Name, First Name. Title   of Book (italicized). City of   Publication: Publisher, Year Published. Medium of Publication (print, e-book, etc.)

Example: Arnold, Tedd. Fly Guy and the Frankenfly. New York:   Scholastic Inc., 2013. Print.

Book with More Than One   Author


The   first author’s name is written Last Name, First Name but the other author   names are written First Name, Last Name. The rest of the format is as above.

Example: Gorman, Carol and Ron J.   Findley. Stumptown Kid. Atlanta:   Peachtree Publishers, 2005. Print.

On-Line Encyclopedia   Article


Author   Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Encylopedia. Year of Publication. Publisher. Web. Date looked   at. 

Example:   Jackson, Keith. “Chesapeake Bay.” Encyclopedia Britannica.   2006 ed. Encyclopedia Britannica Online.   Web. 14 Sept. 2006.

Website (note: You may not always   find an author or a month and year of publication!)


Last   Name, First Name. “Website Article.” Website   Title (italicized). Website Publisher, Date Month Year Published. Medium   of Publication. Date Month Year you looked at it. (The URL ( web address) is   no longer required)

Example: “France.” National Geographic Kids. National   Geographic Society, 2013. Web. 7 August 2013.

Video Viewed Online



“Segment Title.”   Director/Creator (if available). Title of database or Website (italicized). Year of publication. Medium of Publication. Date   Month Year you looked at it. 

Example: “The   L-Team.” Williams College Libraries. YouTube.   2007. Web. 27 August 2009.

Sound Recording


Artist   Last Name, First Name. “Song Title.” Title   of Album. Publisher, Year of Publication. Medium of Publication.

Example: Presley,   E. “Jailhouse Rock.” Essential Elvis Presley. BMG, 2007. CD.

Photograph   Online


Photographer’s Last Name, First Name (if   available). Photograph Title. Year   Created. Photograph. Museum/Institution/where kept (if applies). Name of website in italics. Medium of   Publication. Date Month Year looked at.

Example: Paley,   Albert. The Sentinel. 2003. Photograph. Rochester Institute of   Technology. Google Images. Web.   23 July 2009.
