Fall Reading in the LLC

We’ve been having a lot of reading events happening in the LLC this fall so I thought to share some of them here.

One of my favorite reading events of the entire school year is the beginning of Global Read Aloud when we get together in the LLC to celebrate the joy of reading aloud to our students.

“The GRA (Global Read Aloud) project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 2,000,000 students having participated.” Click here to visit the GRA website and read more about current and past books.

This year, we joined with our 2nd, 4th and 5th graders and we meet every week to read in the LLC.

We are reading the Mem Fox’s wonderful stories with our 2nd graders and it is so wonderful to see how their face light up while they listen to the great adventure of Australian animal characters in Possum Magic and Koala Lou.

Mr. Vuolo could not put down “The Wild Robot” and kept reading chapter after chapter for all our 4th graders gathered in the LLC to listen to Roz’s adventures on an Island full of surprises, dangers and curiosities.

We invited Mrs. Wilder to read to our 5th graders and we are so grateful for her coming to join us again and share the gifts of reading aloud!

Thank you all for making our participation to the GRA such a joyful learning experience!

We’ve had Gordon Korman visiting our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders this past week and he delighted us with a fun and inspiring presentation of his books and the writing process, his ideas for book topics and his collaboration with other authors. Gordon Korman’s great humor filled the LLC with laughter and joy! Thank you to Gordon Korman for the amazing visit and to our PTA for giving our students the opportunity to meet such an inspiring author!

Last, but not least, our first Nutmeg Book Club met this week and we had 14 excited students debating early in the morning who’s right in the Tapper Twins Go to War. The debate between Team Claudia and Team Reese brought so much excitement to our 4th and 5th graders! We ended up with a Kahoot quiz with questions from the book.

Can’t wait to see you all again at our next Nutmeg Book club on November 1st when we’ll talk about the book “Took: A Ghost Story” by Mary Downing Hahn.

Could not pick a better title for the day after Halloween!

Happy reading!
